Jail terms for men guilty of Stoke-on-Trent murder conspiracy

Five Birmingham men found guilty of conspiracy to murder after a man was shot in the leg in Stoke-on-Trent have been jailed.

Mohammed Afsar, 63, was shot in Chaplin Road, Normacot, on 4 June 2010, resulting in serious leg injuries.

Three of the men were jailed for 24 years and the other two received 20-year terms at Manchester Crown Court.

The men were convicted following a five-week trial at Stafford Crown Court which ended last month.

Omran Rashid, 34, of Heather Road, Small Heath, Wassab Khan, 32, of Churchill Road, Small Heath, and Abdul Maroof, 29, of Herrick Road, Washwood Heath, were jailed for 24 years each.

Abdul Jabbar, 19, of Bracebridge Road, Moseley, and Faisal Saraj, 20, of Kelynmead Road, Stechford, were jailed for 20 years each.

Responding to the sentencing, Mr Afsar, a restaurant owner, said: "I'm very happy. This is very good."
