The hospital said foundation status would help it develop better ways to work with patients

A Devon hospital has begun a consultation as part of its bid to become a foundation health trust.

The consultation, at Plymouth's Derriford Hospital, which also covers part of Cornwall, runs until 27 March.

Foundation hospitals have greater independence in managing affairs and budgets, but remain part of the NHS.

Derriford Hospital said it wanted to make the move to foundation status to develop better ways to work with patients, staff and supporters.

Elsewhere in Devon, the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital and Torbay Hospital already have foundation status.
