Vera Baird from the Labour Party has been elected as the police and crime commissioner for Northumbria.

PETER ANDRAS - Liberal Democrat
Peter Andras is a Newcastle City councillor
Peter Andras, who has been chosen to be the Liberal Democrat candidate, represents the North Jesmond Ward on Newcastle City Council.
He is a reader at Newcastle University's School of Computing Science.
His pledges include tailoring police provision to suit the needs of different communities, maintaining the operational independence of chief constables and improving the accountability and transparency of police forces.
VERA BAIRD - Labour
Vera Baird lost her seat as a Labour MP at the 2010 General Election
Vera Baird, external, who was MP for Redcar and Solicitor General in the last Labour government before losing her seat, is the party's PCC candidate.
Before entering politics she was a criminal defence barrister and represented miners during the strikes of the 1980s.
She has promised to protect neighbourhood policing and tackle violence against women.

Alistair Baxter has 40 years of experience in the private sector
Alistair Baxter, the UKIP candidate, has four decades of private sector experience managing large budgets and teams.
He has played an active role in community and church activities throughout his life.
Mr Baxter said he had never been a "career politician" and felt he was free of influence.
PHILIP BUTLER - Conservative
Philip Butler is a former police officer
Philip Butler, external, who is standing for the Conservatives, is a former police officer and was head of economic crime at Northumbria Police.
He now runs an internet safety company and a forensic accountancy business.
Mr Butler has pledged to put victims first and target persistent offenders and organised crime groups.
