Police carry out new Plymouth breakfast shift patrols

Police in Plymouth have carried extra out early patrols in a pilot scheme to stop revellers causing trouble.

The pilot project by Devon and Cornwall Police, Operation Expound, has seen an extra shift starting at 05:00 to assist the usual 22:00 to 07:00 shift.

It supports officers dealing with people still out in pub and club areas such as Union Street and North Hill.

During six nights it has run so far, of 73 offences committed, 18 were between 04:00 and 09:00, police said.

The officers have been patrolling North Hill on Friday mornings, and Union Street on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Insp Richard Kent-Woolsey said officers on the extra shift were often dealing with a "bizarre mix of people going to work and people still out revelling".
