MPs will ask the government what the anticipated impact will be when Ford closes two of its UK manufacturing sites next year.

Southampton's Transit van factory and the stamping plant at Dagenham, east London are to close with the anticipated loss of 1,400 jobs.

Romsey MP Caroline Nokes will lead a debate at Westminster Hall later with Business Minister Michael Fallon MP.

The Unite union has accused the company of "betraying its workforce".

Ford is also planning to close its factory in, Genk, Belgium, which makes the Mondeo and S-Max models, in 2014.
