Brintons Carpets invests £3m in UK plants

A carpet manufacturer has announced a £3m investment at factories in Kidderminster and Telford, which it said would help safeguard 500 jobs.

Brintons Carpets, based in Worcestershire, said the money was mainly being invested in new equipment, developed by the company.

It said the new technology would allow it to produce high-definition weave carpets for an international market.

Last year, the firm cut about 100 jobs in Kidderminster and Telford.

At the same time it also closed operations in China.

Managing director Don Coates said the latest set of company accounts, showed a "significant turnaround" over the last year.

The 230-year-old company said it was also planning to take on about eight apprentices at its factories and expand the spinning facility in Telford.

It said its yarn-processing capacity would increase by 33% to support expected sales growth.
