Aflred Munnings Yellow Jockey painting fetches almost £500,000 at Sotheby's

A Newmarket horseracing painting by East Anglian artist Sir Alfred Munnings has fetched £482,500 at auction.

The Yellow Jockey (c.1940) was last auctioned in 1975 when it fetched £12,941 in New York.

The painting has been sold again at Sotheby's in London.

Munnings was born at Mendham in Suffolk, trained at Norwich School of Art and worked at Dedham in Essex and he kept a studio at Newmarket racecourse in the 1940s.

The artwork was expected to reach between £400,000 and £600,000.
