No Crewe Alexandra footballers will be charged in connection with the alleged rape of a woman in Cornwall this summer.

Seven men, aged between 18 and 35, were arrested in July following a complaint from a woman in her early 20s in Redruth.

More than 20 players from the football club were in Cornwall for pre-season training.

Devon and Cornwall Police said all seven men were released without charge.

A statement on Crewe Alexandra FC's website said: "After conducting a thorough investigation, Devon and Cornwall Police have today confirmed that no action will be taken against any Crewe Alexandra players in relation to the alleged pre-season incident in Truro."
