Melanie Hall murder inquiry: Appeal to trace second white car

Detectives investigating the murder of Melanie Hall have made an appeal for help to trace a second car they believe is connected to her disappearance.

Melanie Hall, 25, from Wiltshire, was working at the Royal United Hospital in Bath when she went missing in 1996.

Police seized a white VW Golf GTi hardtop last October after receiving "significant information" about the case.

Now officers want to trace a second car of the same colour, make and model.

Anyone who owned or had in their possession a white VW Golf GTi hardtop, registration number C752 CYE, between April and August 1996 is being asked to contact Avon and Somerset Police.

Officers are particularly keen to talk to anyone to may have owned the Golf, or have information about its whereabouts during that time, with connections to Cardiff and the Pentwyn area.

'Crucial information'

Police believe they may have "crucial information" that could help the investigation.

Det Supt Mike Courtiour said: "Our work into Melanie's murder remains very much active and positive. We are following up a number of leads, of which this missing Golf GTi could be very important."

As part of Operation Denmark, a man arrested in connection with the murder of Melanie Hall, whose body was found next to a motorway slip road, has been bailed again until April.

The 44-year-old was arrested at his Bath home last November as part of the investigation into the death of the 25-year-old hospital clerical worker.

Miss Hall was last seen alive leaving Cadillacs nightclub in Bath in 1996.

Her remains were found close to the Thornbury junction of the M5, near Bristol, in October 2009.
