A woman has died and a man is seriously ill after an incident at a diving centre in Gloucestershire.

Paramedics were called to the National Diving and Activity Centre at Tidenham in the Forest of Dean on Saturday.

The woman, aged in her 50s, from Tavistock in Devon, died at the scene, police said.

Her husband was airlifted to a decompression unit in Plymouth. He is in hospital in a critical but stable condition.

The Health and Safety Executive and the coroner have been informed and police are investigating.

Gloucestershire Police said the pair were diving with a friend who is an instructor.
