Tour de Yorkshire 'sportive' cycling routes announced

The routes have been announced of the mass-participation "sportive" for cyclists along the same roads as the Tour de Yorkshire.

There are to be three distances over which participants can ride the same route as the professionals on 3 May.

Riders choose from 50km, 108km or 140km routes. A women-only sportive will also take place along the 50km route.

Races are to be held on the final day of the Tour de Yorkshire just hours before the main race starts.

Participants will cross the same finish line as the professional riders.

Thousands are expected to take part in the mass cycle ride along the route of the inaugural Tour de Yorkshire, organisers said.

The event is to be run by Welcome to Yorkshire and Amaury Sport Organisation, which organises the Tour de France.

The routes

After leaving Roundhay Park in Leeds, those taking the 140km route are to climb Pool Bank and head towards Bingley, skirt Halifax and then reach Sowerby Bridge.

After Hebden Bridge and Oxenhope, riders will go through Haworth. The route then takes them to Silsden before reaching Addingham, Ilkley and Otley and back to Leeds.

All three rides start and end at Roundhay Park.

Riders can preregister their interest, external and entries are to open on 4 February.
