Everton and England footballer Tom Cleverley and his family were threatened during a break-in at their home in Hale Barns, Greater Manchester.

The raid happened at about 20:00 BST on Friday, two days before Everton hosted Liverpool in the Merseyside derby.

Police said a man, woman and two-year-old child were the victims of an aggravated burglary. Nobody was hurt.

Cleverley, 26, signed from Manchester United in July, and is on the sidelines after suffering ankle ligament damage.

He is married to Georgina Dorsett, 29, who starred in television reality show The Only Way Is Essex.

An investigation into the burglary is under way.
