About 36,000 tonnes of non-recycled rubbish will be transported to Ardley Energy Recovery Facility
Waste in Windsor and Maidenhead will no longer be sent to landfill after the borough council signed a 15-year contract aimed at saving £500,000.
About 36,000 tonnes of non-recycled rubbish a year will now be transported to the Ardley Energy Recovery Facility near Bicester in Oxfordshire.
The council has signed the contract with waste management firm Viridor.
Non-recyclable waste is used by the company to generate electricity at the £205m site.
A council spokesperson said the contract also has the possibility of two five-year extensions.
