A mystery knitter has created a Robbie Williams display on top of a post box and hopes it will raise money for one of his favourite charities.

The person, known only as "Syston Knitting Banxy", said the singer, who has just turned 50, "has one of the loveliest voices in the industry".

The Leicestershire artist knitted him in a range of costumes from his career.

The display will be raffled for Donna Louise children's hospice in Robbie's home town Stoke-on-Trent.

Syston Knitting Banxy said: "He seems to wear his heart on his sleeve, and I think people love him all the more for that.

"He clearly has a fabulous sense of humour, so I thought that might give him a smile, should he get to see the image."

A fundraiser for the hospice, who also runs a fan-page on Facebook with 45,000 followers, offered to sell it, but it will remain on the post box in Syston for another week to allow people to visit it.

Dead of night

The knitter, who lives in the Leicestershire town, did not want their identity revealing and just said: "I am anonymous, venturing out in the dead of night to put toppers on the High Street post box.

"Actually, I say the 'dead of night', but Syston seemingly does not sleep, so I also go out with a disguise.

"I'm happy to say the police have got used to me now."
