Guided busway construction forces road closures in Luton

Work to build a guided busway between Luton and Dunstable is under way in Bedfordshire.

Motorists are being warned to expect disruption as roads in the town are closed for up to four months to allow construction of the route.

Luton Borough Council said the closures had been organised to ensure the co-ordination of all related works.

"We appreciate this will cause inconvenience and wish to apologise in advance," said Councillor Roy Davis.

Part of New Bedford Road will be closed to all vehicles except buses. Closure of the section between Collingdon Street and Mill Street is scheduled to begin on 1 August.

General traffic will be prohibited, with diversions set up via Inkerman Street, Dunstable Road, Telford Way and back on to New Bedford Road.

It is expected that all works will complete by the end of November.

"If the job is finished ahead of schedule then we will of course lift the road closure as soon as possible," said Mr Davis.
