Yarmouth and Waveney charity buys land for hospice plan

A charity is in the process of buying a five-acre site in Norfolk and said it hopes to build a hospice there.
East Coast Hospice, which serves Great Yarmouth and Waveney, has exchanged contracts with the county council for land next to Beacon Park in Gorleston.
It said it intends to build a 10-bed hospice, including day care, respite care and teaching facilities.
The sale will be completed when the charity is granted full planning permission, it added.
East Coast Hospice claims Great Yarmouth and Waveney is one of only two areas in the country without a hospice.
It will now seek the capital it requires from "major national donors" and submit a planning application.
An archaeological exploration will also take place after a ring ditch which would have marked the burial place of an important local person in pre-Roman times was found, the charity said.
