Lorry driver arrested over M25 Potters Bar crash

A lorry driver has been arrested following a crash that closed the M25 between junctions 23 and 25 and left four people injured.

The road was shut near Potters Bar, in Hertfordshire, after a lorry overturned across a central reservation.

One man was in a critical condition and another was seriously injured.

Police said the man, who is being held in custody, had been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Three of the four injured men were road workers carrying out repairs on the M25, a Metropolitan Police spokesman said.

The accident happened at about 09:30 GMT and the carriageway did not fully reopen until 20:00 GMT.

The fire service said it freed two people - one who was trapped in the cab of the lorry and another who was trapped under a barrier.

Another person was found injured in the road.

An East of England Ambulance Service Trust spokesman said one person who suffered "life-threatening leg injuries" was airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital, in Cambridge.

The other seriously injured person was taken to Chase Farm Hospital, in north London.

The spokesman added two other people were treated at the scene for "minor injuries". No other vehicles were involved, police said.

The Highways Agency confirmed three road workers were among those injured.

Lorry driver Bruno Fernandes said: "I must have arrived three or four minutes after it happened. The emergency services were keeping people out of the way.

"We were told turn around and were then diverted away from the area."

On Tuesday, a lorry driver was killed when his vehicle overturned and caught fire close to Junction 25.
