A large python which almost gave police the slip is safely in custody.

The 5ft (1.5m) snake was discovered by Thames Valley Police officers in Green End, Granborough on Tuesday night.

It was taken to Aylesbury Police Station where police said it "snuggled up nice and warm in the inspector's office".

The python will now be taken to a snake specialist in Leighton Buzzard who will take care of it until its owner, or a new owner, can be found.

The force said it had been kept "safe and warm" thanks to the expert snake knowledge of one of the on-duty sergeants.
