A road has been closed after a large sinkhole appeared.

It opened up recently on Hempstead Road in Potten End, a small road which links Hemel Hempstead to Berkhamsted in Hertfordshire.

The road has been closed to both traffic and pedestrians as the verge is considered unstable, according to one of many signs placed at the scene.

Hempstead Road is not expected to reopen until 17 May and diversions have been put in place.

Elsewhere in Hertfordshire, sinkholes recently appeared in St Albans and Welwyn Garden City, with some residents having to evacuate their homes.
