Police said the attack happened in an underpass on Monday

A 34-year-old man has died three days after being attacked in an underpass in Milton Keynes.

Thames Valley Police said the man was assaulted between Groveway and Newport Road, in the Wavendon Gate area of the city, on Monday, and he died in hospital on Thursday.

The force said it was now treating it as a murder inquiry.

Westley Atick, 25, of Buxton Close in the city, had been charged with attempted murder on Wednesday.

Police said they were working on the case with the Crown Prosecution Service.

The force said formal identification of the victim and a post-mortem examination had yet to take place, but the man's next-of-kin were being supported by officers.

Mr Atick was remanded in custody by magistrates on Wednesday and was due to appear at Aylesbury Crown Court on 4 December, the force added.

A 27-year-old woman from Milton Keynes was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.
