Milton Keynes BMX club said flooding has caused 'some serious damage'

A BMX club expressed its devastation after flooding caused "serious damage" to its track ahead of hosting a leg of a race.

Milton Keynes BMX Racing Club said their Pineham track was submerged after the River Ouzel burst its banks.

Secretary Alex Marklew said: "It's really devastating to be honest".

"Just as we thing we're getting there, just as we're getting things back together again, we wake up and it's like this," he said.

The club has cancelled hosting its leg of the BMX East winter series, external which was due to take place on 21 January.

Mr Marklew said: "We were supposed to be hosting a big race back in October, that got cancelled because of flooding, it got rescheduled to January and now it has been cancelled again".

Previous damage caused by flooding took about a month to repair.

Mr Marklew said Storm Henk "hit us harder than the forecasters suggested".

The club secretary warned if flooding continued and members could not use the facilities it could impact the club's future.

"We love riding here, this is our home, this is where we want to be but as long as we can't race and train it makes it really hard to carry on," he explained

"As long as the track is under water we got nothing to offer people."
