Seventh teen arrested in Luton murder investigation

Detectives investigating the fatal stabbing of a teenage student have made a further arrest.

Ashraf Habimana, 16, died from stab wounds after an attack on Nunnery Lane, Luton, on 29 September last year.

A 19-year-old man from the town has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm and possession of a knife.

Six teenagers have already been charged with murder in connection with the Luton Sixth Form College pupil's death.

The latest suspect taken into custody by police was released on bail on Wednesday pending further inquiries.

"Shocking, unacceptable violence led to the death of a young man from our community with his whole life ahead of him," Det Insp Graham Newton said.

"We are determined to bring anyone involved to justice and send a strong, unequivocal message that violent attitudes and behaviour of this nature will not be tolerated."

In a statement on a fundraising page launched after his death, Ashraf's mother called him "loving, caring, calm and extraordinary".
