Fire crews were called to Haddenham on Thursday morning

Investigators are trying to establish the cause of a flat fire which left a woman dead.

Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said the woman died at the scene of the blaze in Butte Furlong, Haddenham, early on Thursday.

A man was also treated for the effects of breathing in smoke.

Fire investigation specialists are working with officers from Thames Valley Police to determine what happened.

Firefighters using breathing apparatus had reached the woman and provided emergency care before paramedics took over.

"The firefighters forced entry to the flat," said the fire service in a statement.

"They rescued one woman."

The statement added: "Sadly, the woman died at the scene."

Fire crews from Thame and Aylesbury were called and found smoke "issuing" from a two-storey block, the statement said.
