Reading football bus back for two games after protest

The club said it had been forced to subsidise services since it started in 2007

Bus routes for football fans travelling to Reading's ground have been reinstated after protests from fans.

The services from Basingstoke and Farnborough in Hampshire, and Bracknell and Wokingham to the Madejski Stadium had been axed for the season.

The club said the Stagecoach services only attracted limited passengers and there were other transport links.

But they will now run, with a £1 fare rise, for Reading's first two home games of the season before a review.

Fans had argued that the routes had been busy and going by train would cost them three times as much.

'More convenient'

Ben Mitchell, from Bracknell, said: "For the supporters, this is a brilliant step forward.

"When they took it away, all our hard work had been destroyed. To get it back feels really good.

"It is much more convenient than getting a bus to town, then a train and then another bus, another pound on to the journey isn't bad at all."

Reading Football Club said it has been forced to subsidise the services since it started in 2007.

The club added: "We have continued to hold open discussions with Stagecoach, STAR (Supporters' Trust At Reading) and a number of our supporters to find a solution that suits all parties and allows the services to continue."
