Residents are being urged to view plans to build new homes on the site of a Berkshire military base.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is expected to leave Arborfield Garrison, near Wokingham, by 2015.

Proposals include building about 2,000 homes, as well as schools, shops and a district centre by 2026.

The plans have been met with concern by Arborfield Garrison Residents' Action Group (Ag-Rag), which is concerned at the scale of the development.

Martin Rutter, Ag-Rag chairman, said while a "suitably-sized" development on brown field land would be supported, residents would remain "vehemently opposed" to the loss of green fields and open spaces.

The MoD planning application is expected to be submitted to Wokingham Borough Council by January.

Officials will be at Arborfield Garrison Community Centre until Friday to discuss plans with residents.
