Slough council introduces £80 dog control order fines

Slough council has introduced stricter dog control orders after residents complained of dog mess.

The new measures mean people could be fined £80 if they fail to pick up after a dog on any land or street where the public have access.

Dog owners will be fined if they go into children's playgrounds and sports areas.

Rubber swings in playgrounds have been found with large bite marks from dog owners exercising their pets' jaws.

Dog owners will also be given a penalty notice if they fail to keep their dogs on a lead in shopping or residential areas or if they try to walk more than six dogs at once.

Dympna Molloy, head of neighbourhood enforcement, said: "There is still a minority of dog owners who do not have proper control over their dogs, and do not pick up after them, leaving parks and streets strewn with faeces."

A spokeswoman for Slough Borough Council said the problem was particularly bad in Mercian Way Recreation Ground in Cippenham, which also has football playing fields.

She said "status dogs" had become more popular in Slough, which could be intimidating for residents.
