Maidenhead's Oldfield Primary School to double in size

A Berkshire school is set to double in size to meet a growing demand for school places.

The council said Oldfield Primary School on Chiltern Road, Maidenhead would increase its intake from 240 to 420 pupils.

A replacement £7.3m building will be constructed in Bray Road.

The new building is expected to open in September 2014 to 300 pupils. The school intake will then increase by 30 pupils each year.

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead council said the number of children living in the area had "increased substantially over the last few years".

The council said no decision had been taken about the future of the Chiltern Road site and added it would be "some time" before there would be any further progress.
