Reading's Friar Street to be shut for five days for repairs

One of Reading's high streets will be closed for up to five days while emergency repairs are carried out.
The council said "several stretches" of Friar Street, a main bus route, were damaged by recent wet weather coupled with last month's snow and ice.
Work will begin next Monday, at 08:00 GMT, and it is expected to continue throughout the week.
A council spokesman said: "Buses which use Friar Street will be diverted and temporary bus stops will be provided."
The street will be closed between Greyfriars Road and Station Road.
The work will involve digging out and reconstructing the road surface, adjusting manhole covers and drains, replacing road markings and repairing road gullies and surface water connections.
One disabled parking bay will not be available while work is carried out.
The council said it would be "in direct contact" with affected businesses, including on their delivery arrangements.
