Slough: Brunel Way Car Park to return for 12 months
- Published
A former car park site that was closed earlier this year will be used for parking for another 12 months.
Brunel Way Car Park in Slough, Berkshire, will be used by drivers temporarily after being given the green light by the borough council.
The planning application said the site, which has a 124-car capacity, supported the use of the nearby train station.
A seven-storey office block is then expected to be built on the plot in December 2024.
Since the previous consent for the office block was given, the Elizabeth Line was opened and the London Ultra Low Emission Zone was expanded, the planning application argued.
It also noted a phasing out of petrol and diesel cars had been announced and the pandemic had changed working patterns, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
"None of these are easy fixes and require patience and time and it's not in the best interests of the communities that use towns and cities to travel or work to not offer alternatives until plans are completed," the planning statement read.
The site will stop being a car park on 1 December 2024.
