A waterfall of poppies has been placed on the side of a council building ahead of Remembrance commemorations.

Lucy Faulkner collected hundreds of the paper flowers from old wreaths and wired them to a 5m (16ft 4ins) net on the side of Woodley Town Council's Oakwood Centre in Berkshire.

Mrs Faulkner said the artwork took two days to complete.

"It is really important for the community to have a visual reminder of the day," she said.

The poppies can be seen at a Remembrance service held at the Woodley Memorial in Woodford Park on Sunday.

The display will remain in place until the end of November, and a QR code competition is attached encouraging people to guess how many poppies feature in the waterfall.

Mrs Faulkner's husband was in the armed forces and served in Afghanistan.

She said she believed it was vital to remember that poppies represent all military personnel, past and present.

"It's important for children to come along and learn why poppies are sold at school," she said.

"It gives a little bit of a lift for people to look at on a dark day."
