Free West Berkshire bus travel returns for Christmas lead-up
- Published
Some bus journeys for passengers travelling in west Berkshire will be free in the lead up to Christmas.
West Berkshire Council said the scheme would apply to all buses in the area on three Saturdays during the festive period - 18 November and 16 and 23 December.
The authority hopes it will encourage residents to reduce their carbon footprint.
It comes after a similar scheme was launched for services in Wokingham.
Journeys will be free on Reading Buses, Newbury & District, Thames Travel, and Stagecoach, along with the council's Connect buses.
Denise Gaines, the council's executive member for Highways, Housing, and Sustainable Travel, said: "As we navigate the cost of living crisis, this gesture not only eases travel expenses but also reduces our carbon footprint.
"By filling our roads with fewer cars, we aim to boost footfall in local towns and villages to enjoy all the activities taking place and support our local businesses during these challenging times."
