A football club visited a hospital children's ward to deliver some festive cheer.

Slough Town's first team and management visited Wexham Park Hospital, Berkshire, on Thursday evening.

The players took time out of training to deliver presents and "spend some quality time" with the children and their parents.

Manager Scott Davies said that handing out presents had been "extremely rewarding".

Assistant manager Tony Fontenelle, also known as Yella, was described as "the driving force behind the idea"

"As we all know, Christmas is a time that all children look forward to, but upon arrival at the hospital we soon realised that sometimes that can be taken away from you," Mr Davies said.

"It was definitely humbling to see many unfortunate babies and young children, who could end up spending Christmas Day in hospital, so for us to bring a smile to their faces for a moment or two was lovely to see."

He added that assistant manager Tony Fontenelle, known as Yella to supporters, had been "the driving force behind the idea".

"His family spent time at Great Ormond Street Hospital where one of his daughters was battling meningitis, and to this day he has vowed to make sure that he does his utmost to give back each year, as thanks for the great care that the doctors and nurses provide day in, day out throughout the year", Mr Davies said.

"Our staff and management dug deep into their own pockets and were then supported on top of that by the club to get some fantastic presents."
