Work on a £7m sports facility will begin this month as part of a new housing development in Berkshire.

Two football pitches and a full-size cricket pitch will be built at Shinfield, along with a pavilion with changing rooms and function room.

The project, a partnership between Shinfield Parish Council and the University of Reading, aims to address a shortfall in local facilities.

The pavilion, off Hyde End Lane, is expected to open later this year.

The pitches are expected to be ready for the first sporting fixtures of summer 2025.

Work is being carried out by Beard Construction on behalf of the University of Reading, which owns the land, as part of planning conditions for the Shinfield West development.

Once completed, the facilities will be managed and operated by Shinfield Parish Council.
