Water has returned to taps in the Reading area after a problem at a treatment site and more than 10 burst mains, Thames Water said.

The initial fault at a treatment works meant water levels in reservoirs fell.

After fixing the issue on Saturday, the water firm said it then had problems with pressure due to more than 10 burst mains following the cold weather snap.

The water firm said everyone "should now have some water supply, but it may be at a lower pressure than normal".

It said over nine tankers were being used to supply water in the area "to meet demand and improve water pressure".

"We expect water pressure to improve in the coming days as we carry out repairs and as reservoir levels increase", the water firm said.

The issue, found at Pangbourne Water Treatment site, affected homes in the Reading, Pangbourne and Tilehurst areas, the postcodes impacted included RG30, RG31 and RG1.

The water firm said a bottled water station at Tesco Extra, Napier Road, Reading, will be open on Tuesday until 21:00 GMT.

Water is also being delivered to vulnerable customers on Thames Water's priority list.

It said anyone who was still experiencing supply issues should get in touch, external.
