A man went to a mosque asking for medical assistance after a stabbing, according to a councillor.

It comes as Thames Valley Police said it was dealing with a serious incident on Manzil Way, Oxford, on Wednesday evening.

Councillor Shaista Aziz said the stabbing happened in nearby Cosin Close.

She said the victim went to Central Oxford Mosque on Manzil Way and was helped by trustees.

Ms Aziz, of Oxford City Council, added paramedics attended the scene and the victim was taken to hospital.

She posted a statement from Central Oxford Mosque Society which said the incident was unrelated to the mosque.

"Please refrain from spreading false information and keep the victim in your prayers," it added.

It said Cosin Close and Manzil Way had been closed.

Thames Valley Police has been approached for further comment.
