Work to clean, repaint and add new lights to the bridge has seen it fully closed since January

A footbridge used by thousands of residents and tourists visiting Windsor has reopened after refurbishment work.

Windsor Coach Park footbridge, which connects the parking area to the town centre, was wrapped in scaffolding for 17 weeks during its overhaul.

Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead council said the work had been completed quicker than planned and it was reopened on Friday.

It said the work would "enhance the sense of welcome" to the town.

The bridge was cleaned and repainted, had new lighting fitted and a new mirror film added to the underside of its canopy.

Its lifts were refurbished during the first phase of the works in October and November to avoid disrupting small businesses during the festive period.

The council is required to repair and maintain the bridge under a lease with Network Rail.

Geoff Hill, cabinet member for transport, said: "The refurbished bridge looks great and complements user-friendly upgrades to nine Windsor car parks, including the Coach Park itself, which were recently undertaken in tandem as part of enhancing the sense of welcome to Windsor.

"We'd like to thank businesses for their support and patience during the works."
