Birmingham indoor market traders postpone reopening

An indoor market in Birmingham will not open on Friday despite being cleared by environmental health teams after a mice and cockroach infestation.

Bullring Indoor Market has been closed since Tuesday for an emergency deep clean after sightings of cockroaches.

City council environmental health teams approved it to reopen on Friday.

Traders said they needed time to restock, despite it costing them thousands of pounds in lost revenue. The market will now reopen on Saturday.

The council said on Thursday it would consider paying traders a rent rebate for the three days of lost trade due to the deep clean.

The Bullring Outdoor Market, Rag Market and Wholesale Market are not affected by the indoor market closure.
