London 2012: Torch on canal and tram in Black Country

The Olympic torch will be carried on a canal boat and tram as it passes through the Black Country on its way to Birmingham.

The places the torch will visit on its way to London 2012 have been announced.

It will arrive in Bloxwich, Walsall, on Saturday, 30 June and travel through the borough to Wolverhampton, Dudley and Sandwell.

The flame will then continue on to Birmingham where its arrival will be marked by an evening of celebrations.

The Black Country leg of the route will see the torch travel through Bloxwich, Leamore, Birchills, Walsall and Willenhall.

It will then go to Wolverhampton and past the Black Country Living Museum in Dudley.

The flame will travel across the West Midlands

Runners will then carry the flame into Sandwell through Oldbury, West Bromwich and Smethwick.

Councillor Les Jones, chairman of the Black Country Consortium and leader of Dudley Council, said: "We are delighted that the Olympic flame will be passing through all four areas in the Black Country.

"I'm sure the streets of the Black Country will be lined with people as the relay makes its way to the Olympic stadium for the start of London 2012."

The flame will leave Birmingham on Sunday, 1 July and go through Solihull and Earlswood as it continues its journey to London.

Birmingham is preparing to host US and Jamaican training camps ahead of the Games.
