Defence hospital remembers fallen

Soldiers and staff at the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine in Birmingham gathered to pay their respects to the war dead on Remembrance Sunday.

They were joined at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by patients' families and NHS staff.

The hospital is the main receiving hospital for military casualties from Afghanistan and from other other places across the world.

More than 300 people were expected to attend the gathering.

The service was led by army chaplain Padre Jonathan Daniel.

He said having the service in a hospital wing meant bed-bound and wheelchair-dependent patients could attend.

"There would not be enough room in our chapel," he said.

"The wing has high glass ceilings and I think it is very cathedral-esque in nature."

Services took place across Birmingham and the Black Country including at the Grazebrook War Memorial in Dudley.
