Teenager killed in Birmingham named as Connor Smith

A teenager killed in Birmingham has been named by police as 19-year-old Connor Smith.

A murder investigation was opened after Mr Smith died in what police say was a "targeted attack".

He was in cardiac arrest when paramedics arrived at the scene in Forde Way Gardens, Hawkesley at about 23:30 BST on Thursday.

Emergency crews were called after shots were heard, police said. He was declared dead at the scene.

A post mortem examination will take place later.

Det Insp Warren Hines said: "We have a number of significant inquiries which my officers are following up to locate the person or persons responsible for Connor's death.

"It is horrific that such a young man has lost his life and I would urge anyone who has information about Connor's death, or who is responsible, to come forward and speak to me as soon as possible."
