Police are hunting for a man after a woman was raped near a retail park
Parkland behind the Princess Alice complex in New Oscott, Sutton Coldfield, was cordoned off following the attack at about 22:00 BST on Sunday.
The victim is in hospital being treated for her injuries and specialist charities are on standby to help her, West Midlands Police said.
The force added it would be "working round the clock" to find her attacker.
He has been described as a white man with a Birmingham accent, aged between 20 and 35, and was wearing a grey tracksuit and black trainers.
West Midlands Police said officers had received information from locals to suggest someone matching that description had been "hanging around" the park.
Officers are set to patrol the area over the next few days.
Det Insp Andy McHugh said: "Our thoughts are with the woman who is understandably extremely traumatised."
Forensic evidence is being analysed and CCTV footage examined, the force said.
