Police blocked off Brace Street in the Caldmore area of Walsall
A man is in a critical condition after being struck by a car in a hit-and-run.
The pedestrian, 32, was hit on Brace Street in the Caldmore area of Walsall just after 16:00 BST on Thursday, West Midlands Ambulance Service said.
Police say the car involved is thought to be a black Seat Leon and it is "imperative" it and driver are found.
The West Midlands force gave the car's registration as CV14 XTS and said it had a smashed windscreen after the crash.
"This incident has left a man in a critical condition and it's imperative we find out exactly what happened," Det Insp Craig Newey said.
"As part of our inquiries, we are keen to trace the car involved and are asking the public to be on the lookout for a black Seat Leon with a smashed windscreen.
"I would also encourage the driver to do the right thing and come and tell us what happened and explain the full circumstances."
An air ambulance was sent to the scene, along with land ambulances and paramedics.
The man was taken to Walsall Manor Hospital for further treatment, where he remains in a critical condition.
