Concerns have been raised about serious antisocial behaviour, including assaults, on a Wolverhampton bus service.

Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) said the incidents on the circular 59 route, which runs between the city centre and Wednesfield, were "worrying".

Wolverhampton city councillor Phil Bateman wrote to the authority to highlight the issue.

He said it had become a "very serious and dangerous matter".

Mr Bateman said extra transport safety officers had been travelling on the route and had identified one youth believed to be involved in "a number of serious attacks".

TfWM thanked him for "shining a light on the issues being experienced by passengers" and said the regular patrols, backed up by the police, had seen a reduction in the number of reported incidents from nine in November to three in December.

It said its prevention strategy would "continue to evolve" and four other youths had been identified using CCTV and police had visited them and their parents to discuss their behaviour.

This news was gathered by the Local Democracy Reporting Service which covers councils and other public service organisations.
