Coaches ferried passengers between destinations after train services were halted

Dozens of rail passengers had to walk along tracks after being evacuated from a train when a fallen tree halted services.

Overhead wires were affected at Kings Norton which led to West Midlands Railway cancelling services between Birmingham, Redditch and Bromsgrove.

About 60 people were helped off the train outside Longbridge at 14:15 GMT.

Coaches are operating from Longbridge to Bromsgrove, Redditch and Barnt Green, and Bromsgrove to Droitwich.

Hereford trains have also been diverted to Snow Hill, the operator said.

The operator said the "controlled evacuation" was carried out, in conjunction with Network Rail, just outside Longbridge station. Passengers then got onto a coach.

"Our colleagues at Network Rail are in the process of removing the affected tree, which is located between Barnt Green and Kings Norton, and checking the overhead electric wires before we can resume services.

"We currently do not have an ETA for when we are able to resume services between Birmingham and Redditch/Bromsgrove."
