The huge stash of cash was discovered in the car boot of a black Volvo S90 in Hockley

A man has been arrested after police found more than £150,000 in cash hidden in a cardboard box in a car boot.

Officers from West Midlands Police's illicit cash team discovered the stash after intercepting a black Volvo S90 in Hockley, Birmingham.

A search of the driver's house uncovered a further £16,000 in Scottish and Irish bank notes, police said.

The suspect was arrested on 19 December and later released on bail as inquiries continue.

The force's major crime proactive team also found a loaded Walther P22 handgun in a bag hidden in the loft of a property in Hockley.

A 17-year-old boy has been charged in connection with the discovery.
