Bradford: Industrial units plan for former mill site
- Published
Plans have been submitted to Bradford Council to build 17 industrial units on a former mill site.
The Fairweather Green Mills site on Thornton Road has been empty for more than two decades, despite several proposals to develop the land.
The new application to create almost 12,000 sq m (129,000 sq ft) of industrial space has been submitted by Fairweather Developments Ltd.
Councillors are expected to decide on the application in May.
Fairweather Green Mills was one of the city's many textile mills until it shut in 1999, with the buildings since demolished.
The latest application to develop the site consists of two parts, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
The first is a full planning application for seven industrial or warehouse units on the Thornton Road side, while the other is an outline planning application for a further 10 units on the site.
Outline planning permission allows for a decision on the general principles of how a site can be developed subject to conditions being met.
The development "will produce a range of employment opportunities and workforce skills which can provide improvements to the local economy", according to the application.
Trees would also be planted on the site, which backs on to Middle Brook.
"The economic, social and environmental net gain for the site at Thornton Road provides an opportunity to deliver a much needed and highly sustainable development that will complement and expand the scope of employment within the area," the application continued.
