Chris Jefferies is no longer a suspect, police say

Jo Yeates's former landlord Chris Jefferies has been released from police bail.

Detectives questioned Mr Jefferies, 66, in connection with the murder of Miss Yeates, 25, whose body was found on Christmas Day in Bristol.

A post-mortem examination revealed she had been strangled.

Vincent Tabak, 33, who was also a neighbour of Miss Yeates, has been charged with her murder and is due to appear in court in May.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset police said: "We can confirm that a 66-year-old arrested on suspicion of murdering Joanna Yeates was released without charge on Friday 4 March."

Mr Jefferies, a former teacher at Clifton College in Bristol, was arrested on 30 December and released on bail on 1 January.

Miss Yeates, originally from Ampfield in Hampshire, disappeared from her ground-floor flat on Canygne Road, Clifton, after going out for drinks with friends on 17 December 2010.
