Bath Spa student's pride over Austen book publishing

A Bath Spa student has won a publishing deal for her book on the world famous writer Jane Austen.

Lauren Nixon's book, 'Jane Austen: a Celebration of her Life and work', combines biography with essays on each Austen novel.

Worth Press are coinciding the publication of it with the 200th anniversary of Austen's first published novel, 'Sense and Sensibility'.

The 21-year-old said she was "really proud" of her achievement.

Ms Nixon said: "My book is different from others because it's not just a biography or on a particular theme, it's about the woman, the novels and the legacy.

"It's factual and informative but not heavily academic."

The undergraduate who juggled her writing with working at the Jane Austen Centre, as well as her degree in English Literature, took only four months to complete the book.

She said her work as a guide at the Jane Austen Centre, an exhibition house which tells the story of Jane's Bath experience, gave her the knowledge to help compile her book.

The book is due to be published in August, just before Bath's annual Jane Austen Festival.
