Council earmarks MoD sites in Bath for housing

Three Ministry of Defence (MoD) establishments in Bath are being considered for future housing.

The three sites, Foxhill, Ensleigh and Warminster Road are set to be sold off by the MoD by next March.

Bath and North Somerset Council has said 11,500 new homes need to be built by 2026 and this land could be used for the new estates.

A meeting will be held later where councillors will decide whether to proceed and consult the public.

The consultation will also give potential developers a picture of the key planning priorities such as housing need.

If the plan goes ahead it would make up 20% of the housing need for the next 14 years in the Bath area.

Tim Baker, Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) assistant head projects, said: "The relocation of MoD staff from Bath to Abbey Wood, Bristol, provides the opportunity to dispose of three sites in the city."

He said they were working with the council to "secure a positive outcome for Bath and the wider community".
