Local TV: Made in Bristol to be city's new channel

Made TV Ltd has been unveiled as the winning bidder to run a local TV station in Bristol.

Media regulator Ofcom said the new channel, which will be called Made in Bristol, could be on air next year.

The government has said there is demand for more local programmes than those offered by the BBC or commercial TV.

Made TV said it would be concentrating on the city rather than the West region as current TV programmes from the BBC and ITV do.

Station manager Martin Winter said: "Bristol has long been neglected by having hyper-local coverage and we're looking forward to creating content by the people of Bristol for the people of Bristol."

Other TV licences for Norwich and Cardiff were also awarded on Wednesday.
